The Sanremo YOU, Sanremo’s most advanced single-group machine, bridges the gap between the home and professional markets. The YOU is packed with cutting-edge features. Sounds good, but does it actually work well? We put it to the test in KTC 53.

First of all, you’ll notice how modern the machine looks. Its unique shape, clean lines with lots of black and a touch of chrome here and there, break away from the classic square Italian machines we’re used to. The machine takes only 10 to 15 minutes to warm up, and thanks to its smart software, you can set it to turn on automatically. So you can wake up to a fresh cup of coffee.

Experiment with espresso

The lever is the heart of the machine. By moving it from left to right, you control the pressure during extraction, from 0 to 12 bar. This, combined with the fact that the machine is volumetric, determines the speed at which the coffee flows out—in other words, the flow rate. This gives you plenty of leeway to experiment with different espresso variations.

The machine automatically saves the last brew profile and has space to store twelve custom profiles, in addition to the six standard profiles. This makes it fairly easy for us to quickly find the right profile for different coffees. The temperature of both the boiler and the brew group is adjustable to within 0.1°C and remained very stable during our use.

Of course, a good start to the day begins with a perfect cup of coffee. But did you know that the secret to consistently high-quality coffee also lies in cleaning and maintaining your coffee machine? Read more.

Foaming Milk with the Sanremo YOU

The 1-liter steam boiler is adjustable from 0 to 2 bar. At about 1.4 bar, you have enough power and time to create beautiful microfoam. But in a professional coffee shop, 2 bar can be useful, allowing you to froth a lot of milk in a very short time. The cool-touch feature lets you safely handle the steam wand. It automatically cleans itself after use.

Software

You can configure just about every feature of the Sanremo YOU using the touchscreen. It’s easy to save profiles and switch between them. The software is updated regularly. This is still done using a somewhat old-fashioned USB flash drive located at the back of the machine. You can also download and import recipes this way.

Look & Feel

Weighing 32 kilos, the machine feels very solid. Every part of it is designed to respond instantly to your actions. The hot water and steam levers require a firm press, the touchscreen works flawlessly, and the paddle gives a satisfying click.

Baristas who use the machines in their cafes tell us that the capacity is great and the workflow is very smooth. They also appreciate that the machine is fairly low to the ground, as this allows for more customer interaction. In our opinion, the drip tray is just a bit too short: despite the two settings, quite a bit still splashes over the edge, making it a bit more work to keep everything clean.

Conclusion

The Sanremo YOU is a technical marvel with a beautiful, modern design. The machine is suitable for serious home baristas and coffee shops alike.
