Some teas stand out for their taste, others for the story behind them. Kaley Tea’s Cinnamon
Green Tea Cigar does both. This hand-rolled tea from Sri Lanka combines craft, nature and a
remarkably refined flavour profile in one special infusion.
Sri Lanka is known worldwide for its sprawling tea fields, but behind that iconic image lies an industry under pressure. Ageing plantations, deforestation and increasing competition are forcing many producers to rethink the future of tea.

On the edge of the Sinharaja rainforest, Kaley Tea deliberately takes a different approach. No austere monoculture, but a landscape where tea plants grow among herbs, spices, fruit trees and protected forest. Half of the estate remains completely untouched nature reserve.
Founder Udena Wickremesooriya works according to the principles of analog forestry, a form of agriculture that follows rather than replaces the natural ecosystem as much as possible. That approach is not only about biodiversity, but also about the community around the plantation. Some three hundred families are now involved in the project.
What makes Kaley especially interesting is that sustainability here doesn’t feel like a layer of marketing, but something woven into the way they work. You can see that in the small factory where tea master Dissanayake carefully processes small batches.

Cinnamon Green Tea Cigar
The Cinnamon Green Tea Cigar is without a doubt one of the most extraordinary teas we tasted recently. Not only because of its presentation, but especially because of its sophistication in aroma and taste.
For this tea, the green tea leaves are first steamed and briefly pan-fired. Then exactly 24 whole leaves are selected by hand and wrapped around a fresh cinnamon leaf. That bundle is tied together into a kind of small cigar, which simultaneously serves as an all-natural tea bag.
As it brews, a warm, soft cinnamon aroma is immediately released, combined with light berry notes and a fresh citrus nuance. On the palate, everything remains remarkably elegant. Do not expect an overpowering cinnamon flavour; cinnamon leaf was deliberately used instead of cinnamon bark to keep the profile subtle. This is precisely why the profile remains subtle, soft and layered.
The aftertaste is particularly smooth and round: predominantly sweet, with delicate spicy notes. The aftertaste is creamy and full and remains pleasantly long. It is a tea that goes more toward a gourmet experience than a classic flavoured cinnamon tea.
Also nice: this tea can easily be infused several times without losing its character.
Brewing Tips
More powerful profile:
100°C, 150 ml water, infuse for 5 minutes
Gives more citrus, spiciness and a slight walnut note.
Softer and sweeter:
80°C, 150 ml water, infuse for 5 minutes
More creaminess, sweetness and soft berry notes.
Conclusion Cinnamon Green Tea Cigar
The Cinnamon Green Tea Cigar is not an everyday tea, which is exactly what makes it so interesting. From the hand-rolled presentation to the refined flavour profile, everything reflects care and craftsmanship. Highly recommended for tea drinkers who are looking to taste something truly different.
