Which country actually has the largest coffee production in the world? There are a few contenders, but it all depends on how you define “largest coffee producer.” Is the largest the country that produces the most coffee, or the best coffee? The Coffee Detective set out to investigate.

Brazil has long been ranked number one among countries with the highest coffee production. In second place—perhaps surprisingly?—is Vietnam. Here is a list of the top ten countries that produce the most coffee. Figures compiled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The number listed after each country represents the number of bags of coffee beans.

Best quality

It’s impossible to determine which country produces the highest-quality coffee. After all, it’s a subjective matter. There are dozens of wonderful coffees to choose from. According to the Coffee Detective, Colombia is the leader in terms of quality. The Coffeedetective bases this choice on the work of Kenneth Davids, one of the world’s most respected coffee tasters, or “cuppers.” His website features a list of the best coffees he has tasted. This list is constantly changing, and the number one spot is often held by a Kenyan coffee. However, Colombia always holds a few spots in the top 10.
