There are countries where people drink tea all day long, and there are countries where tea consumption lags behind that of coffee. What is global tea consumption?
China is by far the largest consumer of tea; with 725.7 billion kilograms per year, it tops the list. When you look at it on a per-person basis, however, the picture is quite different. The biggest tea drinkers are found in Ireland and—as you might expect—England. But Turkey is home to the most avid tea drinkers; with nearly 3.1 kilograms of tea per person per year, the country tops the list.
The Netherlands ranks twelfth, just outside the top ten: the Dutch drink 0.77 kilograms of tea per person per year. Belgium ranks near the bottom of the list, with 0.12 kilograms of tea per person per year.
